History

When in August 1992 got together in quite modest, very friendly and almost family-like conditions of the first guitar festival with 30 participants and 3 soloists in Rychnov nad Kneznou, nobody could seriously expect that in a few years' time this would become an international festival in which at about 160 guitarists from as many as 18 countries would take part every year and which would be acclaimed by guitar magazines such as Gendai Guitar (Japan), Classical Guitar (Great Britain), Soundboard (USA), Guitart (Italy), Le cahier de la guitare (France), Gitarre und Laute (Germany), Guitares (Belgium), Gitara (Poland) and other journals in Belorussia, Czech Republic and else where.

If at that time somebody had said that there might appear names of such guitarists as those listed in this year's programme, and all that would be achieved without a considerable financial help of big sponsors, who unfortunately prefer supporting sports rather than arts, the guitar experts would not have believed him, to say the least. They would have probably doubted his sanity. The festival grew of its own accord - the number of participants has been increasing from year to year and as far as soloists are concerned, they are so interested in taking part that there really is quality to choose from. With regard to the increasing interest among guitarists and in order to offer better accommodation possibilities the festival moved after six years of editions to city of Brno. The place is different, but both the character of the festival and the courses as well as the organizing board has remained exactly the same.

Today belongs International Guitar Festival BRNO one of the most important guitar festival in the Central Europe. To the festival comes regulary each year at about 150 – 180 participants.
